Welcome Back, Spirals In Love

If I was any good at the Internet, I would have remembered to say something about this BEFORE disappearing for a few weeks. I was on vacation from everything, which is why there have been no new posts or art from Spirals In Love.

I'm hoping to jump back into painting in the next day or two, and I'm waiting for confirmation from the Issaquah Art Walk about whether or not I'll be allowed back within city limits for Friday's Art Walk. If that happens, you'll be the first to know. Because that's how much I love you.

Cloudy With A Chance Of Spirals

I'll be at the Columbia City Art Walk tomorrow night from 4-8pm. You can tell I'm not lying because they put my name in ALL CAPITAL LETTERS on the site for the art walk - http://communityartscreate.org/Community_Arts_Create/ArtWalk_%26_Street_Fair.html. You should stop by and bring me a cookie, but not one with nuts because I'm allergic and while it's not like I sell a lot of art now, it's even harder to sell art when you're throwing up. My tea leaves said it's supposed to be about 70 degrees and mostly sunny, which is optimal art and music weather according to the ArtMusic Optimization Scale (AMOS) that was adopted in 1979.

Here's a link to the alley where all the artists and musicians will be, waiting for your cookies:

This other image is just because I like optical illusions. I've been staring at this one for about three hours.

You Are My Sunshine

I finished/scanned/uploaded a few things in the last couple of days. I'll update the galleries at http://www.spiralsinlove.com/ soon, but at least for now you can view the finished pieces at imagekind using the links below.

I Make Sunshine

Sometimes you have to make your own sunshine. Sometimes it's a full-time job.

My son goes to a school with a sun-referencing name and they're having an auction soon (remember these?). He asked me if I could donate a painting of my own; I was game as long as he helped me with the idea. He described a race of alien creatures that looked like squat birds and in place of heads they each had a tiny sun.

A few years ago I drew the doodle above and wrote a corresponding poem based on Jonathan Richman's "I Eat With Gusto, Damn! You Bet". I'm taken with the idea of making your own light when the world gets dark, so I was especially happy to start in on the sun-headed aliens.

Because, uh, I make sunshine, damn! You bet

That sunshine comes for free!
You like the shade?
Then hang out there
But the sunshine? That's for me!
